How To Repair Lcd Inverter Board And Cable

Laptops are increasingly becoming a staple for most people in their work and personal use. However, having to deal with screens failing can be extremely annoying. And of course there is the cost of repair. Substantial cost savings can be made by knowing how to repair LCD for yourself. In this simple step by step guide, you could soon be able to fix one of the most common problems backlight failure quickly and cost effectively.

The first thing to do is determine which type of inverter board your unit uses. This can be found by referring to your manufacturers manual. Once you have established this, purchase the matching board.

Once you have the board, take the laptop and disconnect all power sources, including removal of the battery. Put this to one side. Now it is time to really learn how to repair LCD.

Taking a suitable flat ended screwdriver, gently ease the bezel away from the screen. There should be a cable that connects to the motherboard. Disconnect this, and place the bezel with the previously discarded battery.

Around the edges of the LCD screen should be some rubber stoppers. Gently work these loose with the screwdriver, and unscrew the screws beneath.

Having done this, the screen casing should be easy to remove. Place this with the battery and bezel. The inverter board should be easily accessible from here. There should be a strip of tape covering the screws holding this in place. Remove this, and unscrew the board from its bed. If you cannot find this, do not worry all models are different, and some may not have this. There will be another cable running to the motherboard; this needs to be disconnected too.

Once both the cable and motherboard have been removed, these can be discarded. Be sure to check the regulations controlling their disposal, as they may come under WEEE directives.

Once the bed has been exposed, the new inverter board can simply be placed into the bed, and attached with the screws. Once attached, you can replace the new cable, and connect to the motherboard. There may be several ports that the cable can be connected to, so ensure you have remembered which port the old cable was removed from!

Once you are satisfied with this, the LCD screen cover can be reconnected, and the protective rubber stoppers put back in place. Once done, reconnect the motherboard cable to the removed plastic bezel, and replace this onto the laptop case.

Once you are satisfied all is connected okay, you can go ahead and replace the battery. Power the unit back up. The manufacturers logo should now appear on screen advising all is okay with the replacement board and cable. Congratulations, you now know how to repair LCD screens for yourself.
